When Cambodia fell to the Khmer Rouge forces of Pol Pot on 18 April 1975, no U-1A escaped to Thailand (Carroll, World Air Forces Directory 1998/9, p. 187); but no U-1A was captured by the Khmer Rouge (Grandolini/Cooper/Troung, Cambodia, part 2).© University of Texas at Dallas, 11 August 2008
de Havilland DHC-3 Otter
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: STOL utility aircraft with a larger cabin and greater payload capability than the Beaver. As with the Beaver, the Otter is very versatile, operating on wheels, floats, amphibious gear, skis and wheel/skis. The main new concept introduced on the Otter was the full-span double-slotted flap (with the outboard trailing flaps also serving as ailerons).
For those of you who has forgotten the aircraft design here it is again.
(The configuration of our U-1A Otters allowed for the pilot, copilot crew chief and 8 passengers.)
