Welcome to the 18th Aviation Company Otter Nest website. This site is dedicated to you, the members of the 18th Aviation Company and it's attached units: the 256th Transportation Detachment and the 163rd Medical Detachment. For these units to successfully complete their missions in Vietnam, it required YOUR dedication and commitment from identifying potential problems, and performing corrective action to keep the aircraft operational and put them in the air.
From inception at Fort Riley, Kansas, subsequent deployment and the 9+ years the 18th Aviation Company operated under combat conditions in Vietnam, it required a real team effort. From the pilots to the parts room, mechanics to the cooks and clerks WE WERE A TEAM. Our officers and enlisted depended on each other. We never then, nor do we now, ever let them down.
Our greatest wish back then was to make it home. Those of us who did, owe our brothers-in-arms who made the ultimate sacrifice, not to be forgotten. We must never forget that all gave some, and some gave all. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!
We have added music to the site, so sit back and enjoy the ride on the Otter Nest flight into memory lane. Thank you and WELCOME HOME!
